Gigantopecten restitunensis

Origin: Lacoste, France
Approximate age: 18 million years
Dimensions: 143cm x 49cm x 10cm

This is a beautiful slab of fossilised scallop shells from the Miocene period. The three-dimensional quality of the piece makes for a very aesthetic display piece. Scallop shells are the traditional emblem of St. James and pilgrims in medieval times often carried them to signify their devotion.
